Porto is gearing up to host, from June 6 to 8, a new edition of the Vinhos Verdes Essência Festival, which will transform the gardens of the National Museum Soares dos Reis into a stage for winemaking, gastronomy and music. Designed for all lovers of Vinho Verde, the event promises a complete experience that goes far beyond wine tastings.
Outstanding Gastronomy
The culinary side takes center stage: five nationally renowned chefs will sign exclusive menus. Vítor Matos, holder of two Michelin stars, will be present with creations inspired by Minho traditions; Arnaldo Azevedo and Marlene Vieira, both Michelin-starred, will present dishes that explore the potential of Vinho Verde in bold combinations. Joining them at the table are Deolinda Fontaínha and Maria do Céu Abreu, in a style that blends technique with regional authenticity.
Workshops and Demonstrations
Those who want to literally “get their hands dirty” will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop led by chef Cristina Manso Preto, specially designed for adults. Children, meanwhile, can discover the secrets of healthy eating in interactive sessions with the nutrition consultant from the Nutrir project. For those who prefer to watch without touching a dish, there will be live demonstrations by two more Michelin names – António Loureiro and Julien Montbabut – and meet-and-greets with emerging cooks such as Luís Américo, Rafaela Louzada and Joana Thony Horta.
Portuguese Flavors at the Stalls
Throughout the weekend, the garden alleys will host stalls and restaurants featuring proposals such as Chama, Wish, Casa Inês, Sala de Prova, Segreti do Chef and Minhofumeiro. From classic snacks to artisanal cured meats and contemporary plates, each space will offer pairings crafted to highlight the diverse grape varieties of Vinho Verde.
Rhythms and Pairings
Musical entertainment completes the program: the lineup includes concerts by the group HMB, the duo Cassete and the tribute band A Kind of Queen. The Insert Coin project will present alternative versions of well-known songs, creating the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a glass in the late afternoon or early evening. At the same time, wine experts will lead focused tastings and sensory games that challenge the palate and deepen knowledge of the Vinho Verde universe.
